Cary murder suspect accused of punching sleeping inmate

A suspect in a Cary murder now is accused of assaulting an inmate in the jail as well.
Daniel Scott Remington, 36, was charged Tuesday with simple assault. Remington, of Cary, was arrested two days earlier on the murder charge.
Remington is accused of fatally shooting Wendy Jean Johnson, 58, a home health nurse, in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Friday evening; police have not disclosed a possible motive. Remington, 36, was arrested in Fayetteville.
Remington is accused of punching Charles Dennison Hodge while Hodge slept on Tuesday, according to an arrest warrant. Hodge had been arrested a day earlier on charges of simple assault and injury to personal property, according to county records.
Remington remained in custody at the Wake County Detention Center on Tuesday evening, county records state. Hodge was no longer listed as an inmate in county records.
