The police department's Interdiction Unit anti-drug squad arrested two middle-age men Wednesday on multiple drug charges, including heroin trafficking, and each was held on $5 million bail.
Police did not disclose what led them to Billy Johnson, 53, and Michael Deon Myatt, 54, or where they were arrested, but they said they had 19.1 grams (about 0.67 ounces) of heroin.
The charges against each man included two counts of heroin trafficking, multiple counts of having heroin or selling it, and having heroin within 1,000 feet of a public park.
Johnson has a long criminal record, state records show, and most recently was released from prison in February, but most are for felony larceny and breaking and entering.
Never miss a local story.
His only felony drug conviction was for having what state law calls a Schedule I drug, which includes heroin and opiates, in 1987.
Myatt has a much shorter record, and all his convictions were for misdemeanors, the records show.
Magistrates set bail for each man at $5 million, and they were held for Thursday court appearances.
