Police on Thursday accused a 24-year-old man of assaulting his girlfriend, who is 14 weeks pregnant.
Melvin Rhamel Williams, of 8716 Hoyle Drive in Raleigh, has been charged by police with one misdemeanor count each of assault on a female and battery of an unborn child, according to an arrest warrant filed Thursday at the Wake County Magistrate’s Office.
Investigators say the incident occurred on Thursday.
Williams is charged with attacking Kemisha Nicole Alford, who lives in Raleigh. Investigators say she was head-butted, then grabbed, pushed, punched with a fist and had her head bashed onto a vehicle, court records show.
Williams remained in custody at the Wake County jail Thursday afternoon. He is being held without bail under a 48-hour hold as required by state law in domestic violence cases.
Williams has also been ordered to have no contact with Alford as a condition of his release, court records show.
