Police charged a Wake County sheriff's deputy with driving while impaired Tuesday night after stopping him on U.S. 70.
Deputy Samuel Porter Lapsley, 45, was put on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of the charge, Chief of Operations Richard Jordan said.
Lapsley, who was assigned to patrol duty in the county, was arrested about 10 p.m., records showed.
Garner police listed the arrest location as 1000 U.S. 70.
Lapsley lives on Lenoxplace Circle in Raleigh.
