Wake County sheriff’s officials charged a 20-year-old father misdemeanor child abuse Friday night in connection with his wrecking a vehicle with his child in it.
Shelton Amerson of Fuquay-Varina attempted to flee from police during a stop on Fayetteville Road in Fuquay-Varina. He wrecked the vehicle and caused over $1,000 in damage and injured his child, according to warrants. The arrest warrant does not say how old Amerson’s child is or what condition the child was in after the accident.
Amerson was also charged with felony fleeing or eluding arrest for attempting to flee police,
Officers also said Amerson skipped court on Oct. 9 for driving without a license and failure to stop at a red light charges. Officers cited him on a failure to appear charge.

He was being held on $7,500 bond and will appear in court on Monday for the child abuse and attempt to flee charge. He will appear again on Dec. 10 for his outstanding failure to appear charge.
Amerson was charged with possession of wine, liquor or mixed beverage in 2010, before he was 21. In 2011, he was charged with breaking and entering and put on probation for two years.
Later the same year, he was charged with felony larceny and probation violation. The courts lengthened his probation by a year and required Amerson to enroll in a GED class and complete 30 hours of community service.
