Steven Robert Cote Jr, 35, has been held in the Wake County Detention Center since Cary officers went to his home on Wright Road on Aug. 20 after, they said in arrest warrants, he had corresponded in an Internet chat room with Detective Kevin West, who was posing as someone interested in photos of young girls in sexual situations.
In arrest warrants served Friday at the detention center, Scotland County deputies accused Cote of 22 counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a child and 22 counts of third-degree exploitation
They all list Aug. 20 as the date of a crime.
The second-degree charges say he duplicated images. Third-degree sexual exploitation covers possessing pornographic images.
Cote’s total bail stood at $1.3 million Monday.
