A Durham police officer who lives in Wake County was arrested by Wake County sheriff's deputies Tuesday night on charges stemming from a domestic dispute.
James John Cartwright, 41, who Durham police said is a corporal assigned to the department’s Patrol Division, was arrested about 11:45 p.m. at his home on Emerald Spring Drive southeast of Knightdale, records showed.
Deputies charged him with assault on a female and interfering with emergency communications.
Cartwright spent Tuesday night in the Wake County Detention Center pending a court appearance Wednesday, where he was allowed to post a $500 bond and was released.
He was placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of an investigation, police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said. Cartwright joined the Durham force in 1998, police said.
