The State Highway Patrol has identified a man who was struck and killed by a sport utility vehicle last month near Wake Forest.
The crash occurred Dec. 26 at about 6:30 a.m. on N.C. 96 near Old Pearce Road, just outside Wake Forest.
Investigators say Mateo Martin Rodriguez, 55, of 153 Happy Trails Lane, Newton Grove, was struck by the SUV while standing in the road, according to the Highway Patrol.
State troopers initially reported that they found no identification Rodriguez, who was wearing dark clothing when he was struck by a Nissan Murano.
But on Wednesday, patrol spokesman Lt. Jeff Gordon reported that investigators had indeed found several forms of identification on him. Working with the Mexican consulate, troopers say they located members of Rodriguiez’s family Wednesday in Texas, Gordon said.
