A man was arrested Monday after a foot chase from a FedEx store where police said he had been using some of 32 counterfeit credit cards to pay for internet access.
Officers arrested Edward Williams, 26, of Jonesboro, Ga., on Old Weatherstone Way chasing him from the FedEx facility at 120 Maynard Crossing, reports showed.
Police got a tip about a person who seemed to be acting suspiciously while using credit cards to rent internet access and went to FedEx to investigate, Capt. Randall Rhyne said.
After catching Williams and charging him with resisting arrest and punching an officer in the jaw while trying to escape, police said, they found 32 credit cards that had been encoded with stolen information. Those led to charges of possessing counterfeit financial instruments and 12 counts of identity theft for using cards to buy the computer time.
Many of the cards had information from people in California, police said in arrest warrants.
A magistrate set Williams’ bail at $500,000, and he was held for a Tuesday first court appearance.
