Police have charged a 25-year-old man with the shooting death of a man found lying near a downtown intersection Wednesday morning.
Charles Douglas Mitchell of Raleigh has been charged with murder in connection with the death of Christopher James Locus, police said Wednesday evening.
Locus, 23, of Raleigh was found at East Lenoir and South Blount streets shortly after 7 a.m. Police say Locus and Mitchell knew each other, but officers have not said what led to the homicide or where it took place.
The intersection is three blocks east of the Raleigh Convention Center and a block north of the Shaw University campus.
A passing motorist called 911 after seeing a man lying awkwardly against a bush in the rain. The caller, whose name was not released, said he called to the man, who did not move.
