Durham deputies charge man, 55, was touching 10-year-old girl at party

Durham County sheriff’s deputies have charged a Henderson man with taking a 10-year-old girl out of sight at a weekend party and inappropriately touching her, and he was being held on $2 million bail Monday.

A 55-year-old man from Henderson was scheduled for a court appearance Monday on charges of first-degree sex offense with a child, taking indecent liberties with a child, assault on a child and kidnapping that stemmed from a party Saturday night, sheriff's deputies said.

Richard Lee Ault of 1515 Club Pond Road was being held in lieu of $2 million bail on two counts of each charge.

The charges stem from allegations that Ault took a 10-year-old girl behind a building and touched her inappropriately during a party Saturday night at a home in the 2400 block of Fletchers Chapel Road.

The girl told a sibling, who told their parents, and the parents called deputies, Deputy Paul M. Sherwin, a sheriff’s office spokesman, said.

“An on-scene investigation by patrol deputies and an investigator led to his arrest without incident,” Sherwin said.
