Broughton High School was locked down Monday morning so police could look for a youth who might have been involved in a fight nearby in which one youth was hurt.
Police said they did not believe there was any danger to anyone in the school, and a statement later Monday morning said detectives and patrol officers felt there was no ongoing danger in the area. The school’s lockdown ended around 12:30 p.m. Monday.
The fight happened in the 800 block of West Peace Street outside Peace Street Market, just east of St. Mary’s Street, police said. A man called police shortly after 7 a.m. to report the altercation.
“Hey, they just shot some guns out here in front of Peace Street Market,” says the caller, whose name was not released. “A bullet went through the window.”
The caller said there were about 30 people outside, and that the shooter left in a gray BMW SUV.
It was not clear whether any shots were actually fired. The 911 caller also mentioned that someone was carrying a machete.
The injured student was believed to have been cut on one hand. Police said the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
