Police found a man seriously wounded late Tuesday when they answered a call about shots being fired in the 100 block of South Elm Street, a spokesman said.
The man, who has not been identified, was found outside about 11:20 p.m. and was taken to Duke University Hospital with what police termed life-threatening injuries.
South Elm was closed Wednesday morning between East Main Street and Angier Avenue while police investigated, the spokesman said.
Police asked anyone with information about what happened to call Investigator Hines at 919-560-4281, ext. 29119, or CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers never have to identify themselves.
