Orange County sheriff's deputies arrested a man at a University Station Road home early Monday after finding a woman there had been shot several times, officials said.
Larry Adkins Griffin, 64, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, Deputy Chan McDade, a sheriff’s office spokesman, said. He also was charged with assault on a female and resisting arrest and was being held without bail.
The incident happened about 3:50 a.m., McDade said.
The first deputies to get to the house after being told a woman had been shot were able to get her to safety while other deputies arrested Griffin, McDade said.

The woman, whose name was not disclosed, was taken to Duke University Hospital, deputies said. Her condition was not disclosed.
McDade said the shooting appeared to be a domestic violence case and did not endanger anyone else.
