A police officer charged that a man offered him free haircuts as a bribe in hopes the officer would not arrest him over an unpaid $192.20 taxi charge.
In an arrest warrant, Officer S.J. Gates said that when he was arresting Eric Brian Jones, 45, on Saturday afternoon outside a Quail Ridge Drive residence, Jones offered him free haircuts.
Gates added offering a bribe to a charge of defrauding Amigo Taxi by not paying a fare.
According to a police report, Jones had racked up the fare because the meter in a cab was kept running while he went to get money to pay for a ride, police spokeswoman Laura Hourigan said.
State records show that an Eric B. Jones holds a barber’s license in Wake County.
Jones was booked into the Wake County detention Facility with a home address of 6405 Forestville Road in unincorporated Wake County.
He was held on $1,000 bail on the charge involving the cab fare and $15,000 on the bribery charge and scheduled for a Monday court appearance.
