A New Jersey man was arrested by Cary police on charges of human trafficking, aiding and abetting prostitution and other crimes after he used a woman’s heroin addiction to force her into “sexual servitude.”
Mark D. Benavidez, 36, was arrested by Cary police on Saturday. His address is listed as Passaic, N.J., according to a Wake County warrant.
Benavidez allegedly recruited, enticed, harbored, transported and provided or obtained a woman with the intent that the woman “be held in sexual servitude” to make money “by providing sexual favors to others” so the money could be turned over to him. Benavidez allegedly provided heroin and other needs as coercion.
Benavidez took “advantage of the sickness that accompanies the heroin usage for the purpose of making money by way of the victim performing sexual acts for that money,” the warrant said.
The 28-year-old Wake County woman Benavidez allegedly kept in sexual servitude also was arrested for possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia on Saturday, according to a warrant. She is listed as homeless in the warrant.
