Investigators arrested a man and woman in Madison County after finding an infant in a cage in the upstairs portion of a residence.
A complaint of child neglect led the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the county’s department of social services to the home on Ivy Ridge Apartment Drive on Wednesday, according to WLOS in nearby Asheville.
In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office said the child was being confined to a cage for 23 hours or more daily and fed minimally.
Haley Trantham and Vincent Lee Jr. each were charged with two counts of child abuse. Trantham is 23 and Lee 28, WLOS reported.
Trantham also was charged with possession of marijuana.
