Seniors are the target of a recent phone call spoofing scam in Franklin County.
County officials issued a warning after learning of several phone calls placed in recent weeks that appear to be coming from the Franklin County Health Department Home Health Agency, when in reality they are not.
The calls show up on caller ID as “County of Franklin” and list the Home Health Agency phone number, 919-496-2143. People who pick up the phone will hear bogus credit card offers and are asked to provide personal financial information.
The Franklin County Health Department does not call people about credit card or financial offers.
“Families and caretakers are encouraged to speak with their seniors about any unusual calls they may be receiving and are strongly encouraged to call local law enforcement to report any suspicious calling activities,” the department said.
For more information or to report a suspicious phone call, contact Franklin County Health Director Scott LaVigne at 919-496-2533 or the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office at 919-496-2186.
