A man charged March 27 with robbing a First Citizens bank branch was accused Tuesday of trying to rob a nearby SunTrust branch shortly before.
Wilbert Lewis Davis, 44, of Franklinton was charged at the Wake County Detention Center, where he was still being held after his earlier arrest.
According to an arrest warrant charging attempted common law robbery, detectives determined that Davis had gone into the SunTrust branch on North New Hope Road shortly before the First Citizens branch on Capital Boulevard was robbed at around 12:40 p.m.
Davis had frightened a teller and was trying to get about $1,000 when he left instead, the warrant stated.
At the First Citizens bank, the robber gave the teller a note. At SunTrust, police did not specify what happened.
No weapon was used in either incident, police said.
A magistrate added $25,000 to the $100,000 bail on which he was being held on the common law robbery charge from March 27, and he was scheduled to go before a judge on the new charge Wednesday.
