Police have tentatively identified a man found dead after a fire in an abandoned house on Poole Road and said he appeared to have been murdered.
Curtis Lamont Mitchell, 32, is believed to be the man found when firefighters worked through rubble after the fire last Wednesday morning in the single-story house at 2801 Poole Road, police said.
Firefighters, who found heavy fire in the building when they answered the 5:30 a.m. alarm, had said that they determined the fire was set.
Police withheld details of how they believe Mitchell, who lived in Raleigh, was killed and of what was used to start the fire.

Scientific testing was ordered to confirm Mitchell’s identity, police said Sunday evening.
They said investigators had established that Mitchell was seen alive in the 1900 block of Poole Road five to six hours before the fire was reported.
