A Pennsylvania man was arrested at a hotel in Raleigh on Wednesday night on charges from Raleigh and Durham police that he had child-pornography computer files.
Arrest warrants issued in Wake County charged Gregory Allen Tignor, 50, of Glen Rock, Pa., with 12 counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
Investigators from Raleigh and Durham police said in the warrants that the computer files contained photos and video clips involving children who appeared to be as young as 2 or 3 years old.
They arrested Tignor at the La Quinta Inn at 2211 Summit Park Lane, off Glenwood Avenue near Interstate 440, shortly after 8 p.m.
Never miss a local story.
It was unclear why Tignor was in Raleigh.
The warrant cited Tuesday and Wednesday as the dates police believed Tignor was involved in distributing or copying material.
Second-degree sexual exploitation covers recording or copying sexually explicit material involving a minor or receives or exchanges it.
Several Triangle police departments have detectives who specialize in finding local people they believe are involved with child pornography. The detectives use software that can tell them whether computer addresses they see appear to be in their areas.
Tignor was held overnight in lieu of $2 million bail and was set to appear before a judge Thursday.
