State Bureau of Investigation agents posed online as someone selling sex with two preteen girls, and a 58-year-old Raleigh man now faces charges stemming from that sting operation.
Jay Lawrence Bobinski was arrested at a hotel in Johnston County on Oct. 26 after, authorities charge, he paid for what he thought was a meeting with 10- to 12-year-old girls.
Bobinski remained in the Johnston County Jail on Thursday, awaiting a Nov. 16 court appearance.
Bobinski was charged with two counts of statutory sexual offense with a child, two counts of taking indecent liberties with children and one count of conspiring to commit a crime.
The day after his arrest, agents added a charge of soliciting to commit a crime.
State law says that taking indecent liberties and attempting to take them are the same thing. The statutory sexual offense charges do not mention attempting the crime.
