A 26-year-old Cary woman slipped out of handcuffs and tried to jump out of a moving State Highway Patrol cruiser on the way to jail, according to charges filed by a state trooper who had arrested her – with some difficulty, he wrote – for driving while impaired early Friday.
Madison Paige Garver also assaulted the male trooper after he stopped her while she was driving a 2010 Mercury at 55 mph in a 45 mph speed zone at Western Boulevard and Blue Ridge Road, charges against her said.
Trooper H.M. Munahi pulled her over at about 2:15 a.m., according to citations he issued.
Munahi wrote that Garver had a strong smell of alcohol on her breath and bloodshot, glassy eyes and there was an open alcoholic beverage container in the car.
Garver did not want to be arrested, pushed Munahi and ran away from him, he charged.
Before and while Munahi was taking her to the Wake County Detention Center, Garver “slipped out of cuffs, attempted to jump from LEO (law enforcement officer) car at 45 mph, fled from LEO vehicle twice and assaulted LEO.”
Garver had an obvious black eye when she was booked into the Wake County Detention Center, but it was unclear Friday if that came from fighting with Munahi or happened another way.
Muhani charged Garver with resisting and obstructing an officer, driving while impaired and assault on a government official. The citations said she may be charged with damage to personal property.
She was later released on bail.
Highway Patrol Sgt. Michael Baker said the incident is under review.
