A man who admitted to videotaping a boy in a men’s restroom at the N.C. State Fair two years ago was sentenced Monday to more than eight years in federal prison for receiving child pornography, according to the U.S. District Attorney’s Office.
Paul William Fantz, 32, of Raleigh was arrested at the State Fair in 2013, after someone saw him videotaping a boy in the men’s restroom and contacted Wake County sheriff’s deputies. The deputies stopped and questioned Fantz, who admitted to recording the child, according to prosecutors.
Investigators obtained search warrants after Fantz’s arrest and found at least 100 videos of boys urinating and about 100 images of child pornography on his iPhone and laptop, according to U.S. Attorney Thomas G. Walker’s office.
When federal child pornography charges were filed against Fantz, the state charges related to the videotaping incident at the State Fair were dropped, a spokeswoman with the Wake County District Attorney’s Office said Monday.
Fantz pleaded guilty last May to one count of receipt of child pornography, according to Walker’s office.
Senior U.S. District Court Judge W. Earl Britt sentenced Fantz to eight years and four months behind bars, followed by 15 years of supervised probation.
