The former chairwoman of a Boy Scout Troop committee in Wilmington and her son are accused of embezzling thousands of dollars from the troop, according to the Pender County Sheriff's Office.
Catherine Rich Barbour, 60, of Hampstead, was arrested Monday and charged with five counts of embezzlement. Investigators said Barbour embezzled nearly $4,000 from Boy Scout Troop 274 in Wilmington between July and December of last year.
Barbour's son, Bryan Thomas Barbour, 30, was wanted on outstanding warrants for felony financial card fraud in connection with the embezzlement case. Bryan Barbour surrendered to police on Wednesday and was charged — two days after his mother's arrest.
Barbour had her first court appearance in Pender County on Tuesday. Bryan Barbour's first appearance was scheduled for Thursday.
