Police have arrested a man they say shot and killed his wife at a West Raleigh apartment complex late Thursday morning.
Police have charged Michael Rashun Sutton with shooting his wife, Tonya Lashawn Sutton, just before 11:30 a.m. on Wesvill Court in the Grand Arbor Reserve apartment complex, just east of Rex Hospital.
Michael Sutton, 42, fled in his car after the shooting, and police put out a bulletin for his arrest. Johnston County sheriff’s deputies arrested him at his home on Valleyfield Drive in Clayton, and Raleigh police brought him to the Wake County Detention Center.
A man who called 911 said Tonya Sutton, 39, was with him in his apartment when Michael Sutton began firing through the front door, then entered the apartment and fired several more shots.
“I had to jump out my window,” the man said on a recording of the call released by police late Thursday.
The man, whose name was not released, said that he could see Tonya Sutton lying on the ground outside his apartment but that he was hiding behind a car in fear that Michael Sutton would come back.
