State troopers have charged a 20-year-old man with felony death by motor vehicle following a crash last week in which a passenger in his car died and he was charged with DWI.
Morris Lee Wilks II was arrested at his home at 100 Farrington Drive in Raleigh. Wilks had been freed after being charged Friday with driving while impaired, reckless driving and violating a provisional driver’s license.
The accident on Mount Vernon Church Road in northern Wake County killed Simon Peter Curran, 21. His funeral is Saturday.
Troopers said Wilks was driving a 2007 Toyota south on the road a little before 3 a.m. when it entered a curve, veered off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

The car continued moving south and crashed into a rock wall, the State Highway Patrol said.
Wilks and another passenger, Marquian Javon Sanders, 19, of Raleigh, were treated for minor injuries.
Wilks was held in lieu of $150,000 bail after his arrest Wednesday and was scheduled for a court appearance Thursday.
