Commuter traffic slowed to a near stand-still on a busy Southeast Raleigh thoroughfare late Tuesday afternoon while police investigated a shooting that left two men wounded.
Neither of the victims received injuries that were considered life threatening, said Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue.
The shooting took place on New Bern Avenue near Trawick Road shortly after 5 p.m. Both of the victims – whose names were not made public by police – were transported to nearby WakeMed in private vehicles, Sughrue reported.
Investigators say one of the victims was at the shooting scene, near a convenience store close to New Bern Avenue and Trawick Road. The second victim was inside a room at a nearby hotel where a bullet, apparently from the same shooting, entered his room and struck him.

Both victims were wounded in their lower bodies or extremities, Sughrue reported.
Police closed two of New Bern Avenue’s three outbound lanes near Trawick.
