Wake County sheriff’s deputies seized 3 kilograms (6.6 pounds) of cocaine at a hotel near Raleigh-Durham International Airport on Wednesday afternoon and charged a man from Miami with drug trafficking.
Ramon Sanmartin Jr., 43, was being held on $5 million bail, and a magistrate ordered him to surrender his passport and airplane tickets he had when drug-enforcement investigators arrested him.
Deputies arrested him at the Days Inn hotel at 1000 Airport Blvd., records showed.
Sanmartin lives at 548 NW 59th Ave., a short distance south of Miami International Airport.
Officials did not disclose the destination on Sanmartin’s airplane tickets.
Officials said the arrest was part of an ongoing investigation to break up drug traffic in the region.
Investigators from multiple federal, state, county and local agencies regularly work in task forces to fight drugs.
