Police have arrested a Durham man in connection with an attempted kidnapping Friday in Chapel Hill.
Keith Robert Webster Jr. faces charges of second-degree kidnapping and possession of a firearm by a felon, the Chapel Hill Police Department stated Saturday in a news release.
An attempted kidnapping late Friday near UNC triggered a campuswide warning from the university’s alert system.
A woman walking near the intersection of Kenan Street and West Cameron Avenue about 11 p.m. Friday told authorities a man driving a Mitsubishi Galant approached her, according to the UNC warning. The man, armed with a handgun, tried to get the woman into his car, but passers-by intervened and she escaped uninjured, according to the UNC warning.
Webster was being held Saturday night at the Orange County Jail in lieu of $100,000 secured bond.
