DURHAM It was a violent weekend in the Triangle’s Bull City.
Police are investigating two fatal shootings in West Durham and a third in East Durham, where a 14-year-old girl was struck by gunfire.
Investigator do not think the shootings are related. They not have they made any arrests.
The latest shooting was reported Sunday morning by a passing motorist in the 1900 block of Lakewood Avenue, police spokesman Wil Glenn reported.
It was about 6:51 a.m. when the motorist called 911 to report a deceased man inside of a vehicle, Glenn reported.
Investigators said the man, who appears to be in his 20s, had been shot.
Police by early Sunday afternoon had not made public the name of the victim.
The day before, just before 4:15 a.m., about five miles away in the 4600 block of Hope Valley Road, emergency dispatchers alerted police about reports of gunshots in the neighborhood.
When the officers arrived they found evidence of a shooting, but no victim, Glenn reported.
The officers contacted local hospitals and located a 33-year-old man, Santonio Rodriguez Rochelle, of Durham, who had died.
Later that day, just after 6 p.m., police found a teen girl who had been shot in the leg, in the 300 block of North Hyde Park Avenue, Glenn reported.
Officers said the victim’s injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
