A 57-year-old woman has been charged stabbing her 87-year-old roommate to death at an assisted-living facility early Tuesday morning, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
Patricia Marrow was charged with first-degree murder and will be held without benefit of bail at the N.C. Correctional Institution for Women in Southeast Raleigh, said Terry Wright, the sheriff’s office chief of staff.
Investigators have accused Marrow of fatally stabbing Elouise Collier just before 3 a.m. Tuesday in a room the women shared at The Jordan at 90 Ef Cottrell Road just south of Louisburg.
Shortly before the stabbing, an employee at The Jordan visited the women’s room to investigate “some type of disturbance,” Wright said. “There had been some arguing” between the two women.
Minutes after leaving, the staff member heard screaming from the room and returned to find Collier on the floor, Wright said. Emergency workers pronounced Collier dead at the scene.
Wright declined to provide details about the stabbing, including where Collier was stabbed. He said the weapon used in the attack was a knife but declined to be more specific about the type of knife or where it had come from.
“It was not a pocketknife,” he said.
