Police charged a 32-year-old man with assault on a state trooper early Monday, saying he had rammed his car into a trooper's cruiser at 30 mph during a chase through city streets.
Phillip Boyd McLeod, who arrest records list as living at 312 Tryon Road, was arrested nearby at South Wilmington Street and Olympia about 1:15 a.m.
An arrest warrant charging McLeod with felony fleeing in a motor vehicle to elude arrest said the chase wound through “various roads in the city of Raleigh” after two Wake County sheriff’s deputies tried to stop McLeod’s 2015 Dodge Charger for traffic violations.
The warrant also accused McLeod of assaulting Trooper J.L. Thorpe by crashing the Charger into Thorpe’s vehicle.

A third charge accused McLeod of cocaine possession, which is a felony.
McLeod was held in lieu of $100,000 bail and scheduled for a Monday court appearance.
