Police on Tuesday identified a woman shot to death at East Main and Elm streets Monday as Latonya Denise Morris, 37, who they said lived in Durham.
Morris was killed by shots fired by someone in a blue Lincoln Navigator just after 1 p.m., spokeswoman Kammie Michael said.
Police found her with multiple gunshot wounds, and emergency medical technicians worked to save her, but she was pronounced dead at a hospital a short time later.
Police had not made an arrest in the case, but they said the shooting did not appear to be a random attack. That determination indicates that investigators believe the shooter or shooters were targeting someone.
They asked anyone with information to call Investigator A. Cristaldi at 919-560-4440, ext. 29322, or CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers never have to identify themselves.
The shooting came a day after police found a body behind a home in the 2800 block of Ashe Street. Police said Monday that they had not identified the victim, but they say he died of a gunshot wound and that they are investigating the case as a homicide.
It was the city’s second murder of the year.
