Police on Wednesday identified a man found shot to death Sunday evening as 20-year-old Nicholas Bell of Durham.
Bell’s body was found about 6:30 p.m. Sunday behind a house at 2805 Ashe St., but investigators were unable to identify him.
They said Monday that they had determined the case was a homicide.
Police initially suspected someone else might be in the house, and they treated the scene as a possible stand-off until they were able to determine that the house, a one-story duplex, was empty.

Investigators remained on the scene through the night and into Monday and kept the 2800 block of Ashe Street closed to traffic.
