A Raleigh man faces charges of attempted murder and assault for what police said was inflicting 12 knife wounds on a woman, hitting her and choking her unconscious in front of their children.
Police arrested Tyree Devon Herring, 25, of 2321 Hinton St. at a house on Bart Street late Monday. Arrest warrants accused him of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault inflicting personal injury with minors present, breaking an entering to terrorize or injure and assault by strangulation.
The attack on Iesha Duffy happened Monday morning at her home on Bodie Island Lane, police said.
The charges said that Herring choked Duffy until she was unconscious. He also hit her with his fist and slashed and stabbed her on her torso, arms and face, police stated.
Three children aged 8 months, 1 year and 7 years were there at the time, the charges said. Police said it appeared that Herring was the children’s father and Duffy was their mother.
Because Herring and Duffy had a personal relationship, the incident was marked as a domestic violence case, and Herring was held without bail.
He was slated to make a first appearance on Tuesday.
