Police in Raleigh and Garner on Tuesday charged an 80-year-old man's caretaker with exploiting his trust and taking $3,000 from him by stealing three checks and forging his signature on them.
Ophilia Brenee Jones, 27, of 804 Springview Trail in Garner surrendered at the Wake County Detention Center and was held in lieu of $25,000 bail, records showed.
Raleigh police charged Jones with three counts of forgery of endorsement, aiding and abetting obtaining by false pretenses and exploiting the trust of an elderly or disabled person, arrest warrants stated.
Garner police charged Jones with one county of aiding and abetting based on where one of the check was deposited.

According to the story police laid out in the charges, they believe that Jones forged checks on the man’s account for $350 in Dec. 4, $1,200 on Dec. 7 and $1,470 the day after that.
The checks were drawn on the man’s account at First Citizens bank and were deposited into an account at the State Employees Credit Union, the warrants charged.
Jones was set to have a first appearance before a judge on Wednesday.
