Police arrested a 21-year-old city resident Tuesday on charges of having pornographic videos and pictures showing young girls.
John Patrick MacDonald of 508 E. Whitaker Mill Road, was accused in arrest warrants of having two computer video files and 10 photo files that showed preteen girls.
The charges date from Dec. 30, when Raleigh police arrested him at his home on several felony drug charges.
The charges Tuesday were 12 counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. That charge involves distributing or receiving or copying pornographic material involving children.
Police agencies use numerous online resources to begin investigations of child pornography trafficking that detectives think are being sent to or from their jurisdictions. It is not uncommon for charges to be brought after officials believe computer files were received or sent.
MacDonald was held in lieu of $1 million bail on the sexual exploitation counts and scheduled for a Wednesday court appearance.
He has a court date scheduled July 19 on the charges of possession with intent to sell or distribute Schedule I and Schedule IV drugs and marijuana. he also was charged with LSD possession.
