Wake County sheriff's deputies Thursday charged a man with sexual exploitation for what they said was sending child pornography to a Cary police detective.
Investigators went to James Carlton Ward’s home at 4916 Richland Drive, off Ebeneezer Church Road, to arrest him, records showed.
Arrest warrants charged the 43-year-old with 12 counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and said the images involved preteen girls.
Each count in the warrants says Ward transported and delivered the material to Detective Kevin West. The warrants said the activity went on between Sept. 15 and Thursday.
West specializes in Internet trafficking of child pornography and often collaborates with other local agencies and state investigators.
The charges did not make clear whether the material was delivered to West online or physically.
Ward was held in lieu of $500,000 bail pending a court appearance Friday.
