A dispute between two groups of people at a gas station on South Miami Boulevard early Friday turned into a car chase with gunfire and a crash, the Durham County Sheriff's Office said.
One group of people brought a woman to Duke University Hospital with a gunshot wound, deputies said.
The car from which someone was shooting crashed at Holloway and North Driver streets, and a man who was hurt collapsed there and was taken to Duke, a statement said.
The woman’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, the statement said. The man’s condition was not disclosed immediately.
It seems to have begun, deputies said, with an altercation at a gas station at 1400 S, Miami Blvd. around 3:30 a.m.
One car then began chasing a second one along U.S. 70 West, investigators determined. Someone in the chasing car was shooting at the one trying to get away, they said.
Deputies said everyone in the crashed car ran from the scene except for the man who was hurt in the wreck.
The woman appeared to have been hit while the cars were in the city of Durham, and police were working with deputies on the case, the sheriff’s office said.
Investigators asked anyone with information that could help them catch the suspects who fled to contact Durham CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200 or the sheriff’s office at 919-560-0900. The public can also submit anonymous crime tips online at the Sheriff's Office website.
