A 15-year-old boy was shot in the head and seriously wounded at a house in Southeast Raleigh early Friday, police said.
A distraught woman called police at about 12:25 a.m. to say she found the boy bleeding on the floor in a house in the 3700 block of Mackinac Island Lane, off Battle Bridge Road.
During a conversation with the dispatcher, the woman said she thought someone had been in the house with the boy and had left just after the shot was fired, according to a recording of the call released by police Friday afternoon. The boy can be heard talking in the background, and the woman tells him to “stay down,” suggesting that he was trying to get up.
The boy, whose name was not disclosed, was taken to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh with what police described as “life-threatening injuries.”
