Police charged an 18-year-old man with reckless driving and hit-and-run Saturday morning for a crash that they said involved a car he had stolen earlier, using keys taken in a home burglary.
In a series of arrest warrants, police accused Tyler Stephen Hicks of 214 Reynolds Road in Raleigh of first-degree burglary at a house on Nottingham Drive, entering and stealing a 2010 Mazda, car theft and having stolen property taken in the overnight burglary.
The keys to the Mazda were among items taken, police said.
Police said Hicks also went into a second car looking for things to steal.
The stolen Mazda collided with another car at Holly Springs Road and Southbriar Drive and then left the scene, police said. They said both the other driver and Hicks were injured, and Hicks should have stopped. Leaving a personal injury accident is a felony.
Hicks also was ticketed for with reckless driving to endanger.
Records show police caught Hicks on Lancashire Court, a little over a mile from the accident scene, about 6:30 a.m.
Hicks was held in lieu of $250,000 for a court appearance Monday.
