Randall Lee Bass, 33, of Durham was arrested Tuesday on first-degree rape and kidnapping charges stemming from a May 11 attack on a woman who told police he was the man who assaulted her, authorities reported.
Police said the U.S. Marshals Service’s Joint Fugitive Task Force caught Bass at an apartment on Falls Pointe Drive, off South Alston Avenue in southern Durham.
In addition to the forcible rape and kidnapping charges, arrest warrants accused Bass of two counts of assault on a female, communicating threats, common-law robbery, assault by strangulation, misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury and habitual misdemeanor assault.
A magistrate ordered Bass held without bail.
The marshals’ task force blends law enforcement officers from federal through local governments to track down people who are wanted and are considered important fugitives.
