A Raleigh woman was charged Thursday with fracturing her 5-week-old daughter's skull on Monday, causing internal bleeding.
Lauren Nicole Schmidt, 27, of 308 Buck Jones Road, was charged after detectives questioned her at their offices.
Schmidt is charged with felony intentional child abuse causing serious injury.
An arrest warrant said the girl was hurt on Aug. 15.
Police spokeswoman Laura Hourigan said medical personnel at Rex Hospital called authorities after the child was brought there for treatment. She arrived in a private vehicle, Hourigan said.
In her booking photo for the charge, Schmidt appears with her left arm in a sling. Hourigan said Schmidt was hurt fighting with officers when she was taken into custody.
Schmidt was held on $500,000 bail and scheduled for a first court appearance Friday.
