A man who worked as a Santa Claus and children’s party magician will spend 30 years in federal prison for producing child pornography involving two children in his care.
Leander Dewey Jones, 65, of Brentwood Road in Raleigh was sentenced in federal court on Tuesday, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Jones had pleaded guilty to one count of manufacturing child pornography in May.
Raleigh police arrested Jones after he took his computer into a repair shop in May 2015 and a technician working on it came across a folder containing child pornography. Police found that the folder had been created almost a year earlier.
Armed with a search warrant, police and FBI agents found about 4,000 images of child pornography on Jones’ computer and his external hard drives, prosecutors said, while another 1,000 images were on compact and floppy disks.
