A Wake County teacher who compared Fuquay-Varina High School to a concentration camp is still in the classroom while under investigation.
Wake County school officials determine whether a teacher can continue teaching during an investigation on a case-by-case basis, said Lisa Luten, communications director.
Luten said she couldn’t comment on why Ray Fournier, a biology teacher, has been allowed to stay in the classroom during the investigation, citing personnel rules.
The school system received complaints after Fournier wrote an article criticizing public schools. The article, published in “No Greater Joy” magazine, compared teachers to Nazi guards and blamed the school for turning a student gay.

Luten said it’s unclear when the investigation will be over.
Fournier has not responded to multiple attempts to reach him for comment.
