Wake Forest University will name its new residence hall for Maya Angelou, the well-known author and late professor at the university.
The five-story Maya Angelou Hall will house 224 first-year students and is scheduled to open in January.
The residence hall will be completed by the end of this year. It is the first new dorm at Wake Forest in three years, and it will include the university’s housing department and a classroom for faculty and student interaction.
Angelou, author of “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,” was a professor at Wake Forest from 1982 to 2014, when she died at the age of 86.
