Shaw University raised more than $630,000 at its 150th anniversary gala on Friday – a record amount for one fund-raising event for Shaw.
The sold-out, black-tie gala surpassed its original goal of $500,000. The money will be used for scholarships and other campus initiatives.
About 600 people attended a downtown Raleigh gala, auction and reception that marked the culmination of the historically black university’s sesquicentennial. Shaw’s National Alumni Association gave $80,000 – a record for the organization.
“The tremendous support of our Gala represented the belief of the community in Shaw University and our vision,” Shaw president Tashni-Ann Dubroy said in a statement.
