Two from Clayton receive degrees
Jessica Anne Parker has graduated with honors from Longwood University in Farmville, Va. She earned a bachelor’s degree.
Nathan Michael Dawkins, also of Clayton, has graduated with honors from Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. He received a bachelor’s degree in music.
The Smithfield Branch of the National Association of University has awarded scholarships to three students from Clayton.
They are Lydia Elrod, a June graduate of Johnston County Middle College High School; Marvin Rawls Jr., a June graduate of Clayton High School; and Gabriel Haire, a student at Campbell University.
Arden Julia Vessie of Clayton has received a scholarship from the Local Government Federal Credit Union. She will use the money to study at East Carolina University.
Two complete mini-medical school
Lizzie Leegins and Jillian Radford, both of North Johnston High School, recently completed a “Mini-Meidcal School” camp at Vance-Granville Commuity College’s Franklin County campus near Louisburg.
They learned about anatomy and physiology, bioprocessing, biochemistry, pharmacology, cardiology, epidemiology, medical genetics and genomics. They also explored health-related careers and became certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and youth mental health first aid.
Clayton resident graduates from Tulane
Nicholas Crowell of Clayton has graduated from Tulane University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree from the School of Science and Engineering.
Sarah Evans has received a $1,250 scholarship from the Johnston County chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international honor society made up of female educators.
Evans, a June graduate of Cleveland High School, plans to study child development at Meredith College, where she as received a $17,000 merit scholarship and a $500 Teaching Fellows grant.
At Cleveland High, Evans was an Honor Roll student and member of the Key Club, HOSA, marching band and swim team.
She is the daughter of Ken and Melissa Evans. Her father is a firefighter. Her mother is a nurse in the Johnston County schools.
