Three local students have been named 2014 Kroger Scholars and will receive $1,000 to assist with educational expenses for the upcoming school year.
A program of The Kroger Co. Foundation, Kroger Scholars is open to children of associates at the Kroger family of stores.
Funds can be used at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational program.
For the 2014-15 school year, 366 students received Kroger Scholars awards.
Local recipients include:• Shea McCullough, a graduate of Panther Creek High School in Cary who is attending Appalachian State University in Boone. Shea is the daughter of Mark McCullough, a seven-year employee of Kroger.
• Taylor Mullens, a homeschool graduate who is in her second year at Pensacola Christian College in Florida. Taylor is the daughter of Eddie Mullens, a 39-year employee of Kroger.
• Kimberly Varner, a graduate of Sanderson High School in Raleigh who is in her second year at N.C. State University. Kimberly is the daughter of William Varner, a seven-year employee of Kroger.
